Battery-powered or hardwired — which should I choose?
Wire-free Palladiom is ideal for retrofit and renovation — no electrician, no wall opening, 3–5 year battery life. Hardwired is cleaner for new construction and eliminates battery maintenance. Both integrate identically with Lutron and Control4. We specify per project. Discuss your project →
Can motorized shading be added to an existing home?
Yes. Battery-powered Lutron shades require no wiring — we install, program, and integrate with your existing Lutron or Control4 system, typically in a single day. Hardwired motors in existing homes are assessed for routing feasibility before we commit.
How long do the motors and batteries last?
Sivoia motors are rated for over 50,000 cycles — more than 13 years at typical use. Wire-free battery modules last 3–5 years and recharge via USB-C without removing the shade. Lutron warrants motors for 5 years.
What happens if the network or Control4 goes offline?
Shades still work. Lutron Pico remotes communicate directly with the motor — no hub or network required. The Lutron app provides local control as a second fallback, and every motor has a physical button as a last resort.
